Brothers Shot, Beaten By Man Who Asked For Cigarette
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police are investigating after one man was shot and another was beaten after a stranger asked for a cigarette.
Police say a man in his 40s was sitting on the porch of his brother's Brownsville home around 1:30 a.m. waiting for a ride from his wife, when one of two men walking down the street stopped and asked for a cigarette.
When he offered the cigarette, one of the men pulled out a gun and told him to walk into the apartment building hallway. The victim then pulled $40 out of his wallet and threw it on the ground.
The victim then ran up the stairs into his brother's apartment and tried to wake up his sleeping brother, when the brother sat up, police say the suspect shot him in the shoulder.
The first victim then tried to grab a baseball bat and after struggling with the suspect, was beaten in the head with the bat.
A third man was also asleep in another bedroom and reportedly did not witness any of the incident.
Both victims were taken to UPMC Mercy and treated.
No word on any arrests.
