Bridgewater Observes Good Friday With Stations Of The Cross Re-Enactment
BRIDGEWATER (KDKA) -- It was a dramatic recreation of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, on a crisp spring day in Bridgewater.
Pastor Dave House says this is the first time that the Good Friday tableau took place in his community.
"We have all four churches in Bridgewater coming together to make this thing come alive. And so, our purpose was because we wanted people to understand and know that Good Friday is all about Jesus and the crucifixion," said Pastor House. "It's not about Easter egg hunts and stuff like that. So, that's why we're doing it."
Parishioners took on the roles of centurion and disciple as the procession made its way down Bridge Street. These were emotional moments.
"We hear the story every year, but to actually see it portrayed, it really brings the message home of what he actually did to forgive for all our sins," said Cindy Frey, of New Brighton.
It is the first time this drama has played out in the streets of Bridgewater.
"I was very excited to know that there was a Good Friday activity that I could bring my kids to, and they could be kids, and not have to sit and be quiet and still experience the story," said Rae Ann Barlow of Patterson Township.
As the procession came to an end at the First Presbyterian Church, parishioners said this should not be a one-time event.

"It's important that the United States continues their belief in Christianity, and this is what it's all about," Patty Backus, of Monaca. "It was important to be here."
At the end, a service and reflection. Those who took part hope the first time in this community will not be the last.
