Boy's Pink Toes In J.Crew Ad Spark Controversy
It's the picture of innocence – a mother and son sharing a laugh at home.
In the photo, the little boy's feet rest in the mother's hands. His toes are painted with hot pink nail polish.
The photo is part of a recent online ad campaign for J.Crew. It shows the company's creative director with her 5-year-old son.
The accompanying caption reads: "Lucky for me, I ended up with a boy whose favorite color is pink. Toenail painting is way more fun in neon."
The image quickly went viral and has created a stir on the internet with people weighing in on both sides of the controversy.
One person wrote: "I like my boys. I don't want them to be girls!"
Another person wrote: "Little boys with pink toes. It's disgusting so are their parents."
But not everyone sees a problem with the ad.
"I actually do not see anything wrong with this. I think it's adorable," one person said.
"Go with it. Have fun. They're kids. They're only going to be children once."
But a parenting expert says whether boys like the color pink or girls like the color blue, it has nothing to do with their gender or whether they'll have any transgender issues later in life.
"We should be focusing on making our kids into good people, good friends, wonderful family members," Dr. Susan Bartell said. "Their gender is going is going to emerge naturally as part of who they are and has nothing to do with whether we put pink nail polish on them."
