Book Last-Minute Summer Vacations For Cheap
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - If you're looking at the calendar and realizing you need to get away before the kids go back to school, don't panic.
It's not too late to get some vacation deals this summer.
It's a little harder to find deals this year because more people are traveling again.
However, if you know where to look you can still find them.
In fact, if you haven't planned anything, you might even get rewarded for your procrastination.
KDKA-TV's David Highfield began the search with deals to Las Vegas you can only get on AAA.com.
The deals included a three-night stay for as low as $385 to $400 a person and that includes airfare.
If you pick the Venetian for instance and stay mid-week you could save about 50 percent off the regular price.
How about a trip to Colonial Williamsburg?
Their Summer Bounce Package saves about 20 percent on your room and you get tickets included to Busch Gardens and other attractions, plus a free breakfast.
It starts at $267 a night.
So, if it's the beach that's calling you listen to this.
"They want them rented. They don't want them to sit empty," Pat Terrill from Prudential Penfed Reality said.
Her website has last-minute deals listed with the price reductions spelled out.
Disney World is always popular and they have up to 30 percent off stays at certain hotels starting on Aug. 15.
If you don't mind flying by the seat of your pants, check out the Hotel Tonight app.
Each day, it counts down to noon and then lists deals at hotels that night. You can even choose from a list of destinations.
Highfield tested the app and compared the rates to those displayed on the hotel's website and he couldn't beat the bargain price on the app.
If Cedar Point sounds like fun, Ruth Nagy suggests going mid-week to save at hotels.
"A weekend trip to Cedar Point will probably cost you on average about $100 more for a two-night stay than a midweek stay," Nagy said.
Plus, lines for the rides will be shorter.
In Scottsdale, Ariz., the mid-century modern Hotel Valley Ho has a special weekend deal through August where if you stay Friday and Saturday, you can stay Sunday night for just $50.
You may want to consider signing up for Sniqueaway deals as well. They send e-mails to alert you to sales.
One offer was for $100 dollars off a night at a posh place in Vermont if you booked within a limited amount of time.
Finally, what about a cruise?
Nagy said you'd normally pay about $125 dollars a day per person, but AAA has a deal where you're actually under $100 a day at the end of August. It departs from Baltimore, so you can always drive there to save more money.
There was a six-night Bermuda cruise that was starting at $549 a person that includes your meals, entertainment and accommodations while you're on board
If you're willing to go on vacation after Labor Day, you can save a considerable amount of money as well.
Also, check out city tourism websites. The websites for Las Vegas and Orlando have lots of great deals.
You may also want to talk to a travel agent. While there are lots of travel websites with last-minute deals, some deals are exclusive for travel agents.
