Bolden Remains At Penn State
STATE COLLEGE (KDKA/AP) - Penn State's spring semester has started and Nittany Lions' quarterbacks Rob Bolden and Kevin Newsome are enrolled in the school following questions about their futures.
A team spokesman announced Tuesday that both players were still with the team, and there was no change in their status.
Bolden's father has said coach Joe Paterno denied his son's request last week for a transfer.
Bolden was the first true freshman to start in JoePa's 45-year tenure as head coach.
At midseason, Bolden was replaced by walk-on Matt McGloin. Bolden suffered a concussion and McGloin was chosen to start over Newsome, the backup.
In the seven games McGloin started, he passed for 1,548 yards on 215 attempts with 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Five of those nine interceptions occurred in the team's 37-24 loss to Florida in the Outback Bowl.
Newsome also had spoken to coaches about his future at least a couple times, and didn't travel with the team for the Outback Bowl.
Penn State also has touted freshman Paul Jones at quarterback. Jones redshirted this season.
