Police Investigate Bogus Traffic Stop On South Side
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh Police are investigating a bogus traffic stop on the city's South Side.
After admitting she ran a red light at the corner of Arlington Avenue and 18th Street, a female driver told police that a car with a flashing red light pulled up behind her.
A man and a woman got out. She assumed they were police by the way they were dressed and it appeared the man was wearing a small badge on his shirt.
The couple asked the female driver and her passenger to get out of their car. They were told to empty their pockets and the two were then patted down.
The man and woman then returned to their car for about 10 minutes, got out and told the driver she was free to leave.
Only later did the driver discover she was missing $240 cash.
Pittsburgh Police say their plainclothes officers wear a badge around their necks or on their belts. Also, lights on their police cars are blue and red.
