Bloomfield Bar Bans Boston Beer Ahead Of Bruins Series
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Howler's Coyote Café in Bloomfield is banning Boston beer starting on Saturday, at least until after the Eastern Conference Finals series pitting the Penguins against the Bruins is over.
The bar has put up a sign, so customers know not to even ask for it.
Not that anyone, at this sensitive time, would.
"It's really just taken off and everybody's sort of gotten on this bandwagon for banning the beer," said Susan Coe, the owner of the café.
They say it all started with a joke between a bartender and a customer Wednesday night.
"It started last night about eight o'clock. We had a guy sitting at the bar drinking a Boston lager, and you know, the way I am I gotta make a joke about something with being a hockey fan; so I told him to get them now because once the series starts that's going to be it for the Sam Adams," said Shaun McGhen, the café's manager. "And it just kind of went from there."
Many Pittsburghers like the idea, but plenty are against it. But McGhen says it's all for the Pens.
"I'm sure there's going to be a few people that aren't too happy about it. Obviously, reading the Internet all day, there's plenty of them out there. But it's one of those things you've got to do as a Penguins' fan," McGhen added. "You've got to let them know that's your cause and we're going to support them."
