Black & Gold Day Declared In Pittsburgh As Penguins Prepare For Game 2
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh Penguins are looking to take a 2-0 lead in the Stanley Cup Final tonight against the San Jose Sharks.
Fans are still riding high after a 3-2 win Monday night in Game 1.
To help support the Penguins, Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and Mayor Bill Peduto have declared today as Black and Gold Day.
"What an exciting time for our region. The eyes of Hockey Nation are on Pittsburgh and Allegheny County and we want to make it clear that the Sharks aren't just playing the Penguins - they're playing all of us," Fitzgerald said.
"We all know that Pittsburgh bleeds back and gold, but it's time to turn it up a notch," Peduto said. "Whether it's your lucky jersey, favorite hat or vintage Penguins T-shirt that is older than the Sharks franchise, let's paint the 'tahn' black and gold for the Pens."
Meanwhile, the NHL is warning fans buying Penguins gear to make sure it's legit. This is a prime time for counterfeiters to take advantage of unsuspecting fans.
The NHL works with local police to stop the production and distribution of fake merchandise, especially at games.
To make sure you're getting authentic gear, look for an NHL hologram sticker with a sewn-in and screen-printed neck label.
Fans are really getting into the Pens spirit.
Parks employees at Sunny Slopes South Park have cut a "Go Pens" sign into the grass.
Newschopper 2 has a view of it from the sky.
If you don't have tickets to Game 2, the big screen will be up again outside of CONSOL Energy Center.
The puck drops at 8 p.m.
