Black Friday Deals Leak Online
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Last week, Best Buy, Target and Toys R Us each revealed some sharp discounts in products sold on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.
On Monday, it was Walmart's turn.
While many get an early start on Christmas shopping, experts say another 40 percent of us are just getting started now.
And the competition to get us into the store means some good deals for consumers.
Lori Smith and her daughter Julie admit to shopping early on Black Friday if the store has good sales.
And over the last week, word is out that most major retailers are competing hard to get shoppers into the store as early as midnight on Thanksgiving night.
"Each one of those retailers wants to get that piece of the pie," says Prof. Paige Beal of Point Park University's School of Business.
The latest is Walmart where an advance copy of their Black Friday sales was leaked and posted on the internet – sales that cater to popular Christmas gifts.
"A lot of video games, Wii games, lot of electronic stuff," Lori Miller of Etna itemizes.
Many electronics will have prices cut at Walmart like a 50-inch Sanyo plasma TV for just $498 or a TomTom GPS for $59 or a Sony camcorder for $189 or an E-machine laptop for $198.
Of course, lots of other items from house wares to clothes to toys will be on sale too.
Here's the way it's going to work at Walmart.
Because supplies are limited for those best prices, tickets are going to be issued when you get to the store for each of the items you want.
Once those tickets are gone, so are the best prices.
Here's a tip. Get there by 2 a.m. because after that most of the hot items will be gone.
Of course, not everybody wants to fight the crowds.
"Heck no," says Robin Jones of the North Side. "That's why I'm out here today, trying to get sales today. I don't think I'll be out here the day after Thanksgiving."
Marty Miller of Cranberry admits he won't get near a store on Black Friday -- but not so his wife.
"Oh, yeah, she spends an arm and a leg," he said. "She does good. Christmas in one day, you can't beat it."
Not many people do all their Christmas shopping on Black Friday.
But if you want the deals, it might work but check out the items online first.
Some sales start at midnight, others at 5 a.m., so you really want to do your homework before you stand in line.
