Black Bear Pays Visit To Cranberry Twp. Residents
CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A couple of residents in Cranberry Township got a big surprise in the form of a black bear Saturday night.
It was around 7 p.m. when Lisa Killough was sitting outside of her home when she saw a large black animal out of the corner of her eye. At first she thought it might be a dog, possibly even her own as the family has one.
When she got a better glimpse, she quickly realized that this was no house pet.
"It was probably about two-and-a-half feet when it was on four legs and then it stood up and it was a little bit taller than me. I was surprised to see it. I've seen deer and turkey, but I was really, really surprised to see a black bear that close to the house," Killough said.
The bear slowly moved towards Killough as she ran inside the house and grabbed her cell phone to take pictures of the bear.
In one picture, the bear is at her kids' playground looking like he wants to swing. Her, neighbor who also saw the bear, called Wildlife Conservation officers.
Killough said she didn't feel threatened as the black bear never got aggressive, but she's still is a bit hesitant to let her boys out in the yard.
"It's a little scary because it's close and we're really close to a lot of action around here. It's not like we're in the middle of nowhere, so for it to come that close and we've got kids and we have a big dog, that has the run of the yard, so I was pretty surprised to see it get that close," Killough said.
