Bishop Zubik Home From The Hospital
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The head of Pittsburgh's Catholic Diocese is now out of the hospital following back surgery.
Bishop David Zubik underwent surgery at UPMC Mercy Hospital last week to repair two bulging discs.
During the operation, doctors removed part of the thin bony roof or lamina to relieve pressure on the nerve root that's been causing his pain.
The diocese released a statement today saying that the surgery was a success and Bishop Zubik will "continue his recuperation at his residence."
The statement goes on to say that "Bishop Zubik expresses his deep thanks to the entire community for the heartfelt prayer and support he has received."
The bishop left the hospital around noon to return to St. Paul Seminary where he will continue his recovery.
Prior to his surgery, doctors told the bishop to clear his schedule the rest of the January to recuperate. The diocese says all of his appointments have been canceled through the end of the month.
