Bin Laden's Death Prompts Travel Concerns
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - With the death of Osama bin Laden, there is now concern of retaliation by al Qaeda.
One of the more vulnerable attack points is the nation's airlines and airports.
At this time, the Department of Homeland Security has not issued any specific terror alerts for any airlines or airports in the country.
However, there was a significant increase the number of people waiting in lines at Pittsburgh International Airport Monday morning.
While heightened security is in place, no special measures are expected to be taken at this point.
"The whole situation is, while it's good news, at the same time I think the threat of terror is still very real. I think passengers need to be aware of that. There is still going to be increased vigilance at the checkpoint," Airport Authority Spokeswoman JoAnn Jenny said.
Travelers are being advised to check the airport's website for wait times at the security check point.
As for mass transit, Port Authority spokesman Jim Ritchie said they are taking some extra security measures. However, he would not elaborate on what specifically is being done.
