Big East Looking At Army And Navy?
Pittsburgh (KDKA)- CBSSports.com is reporting that the Big East could be looking to add Army and Navy as its newest football members.
Brett McMurphy of CBSSports.com says the Big East is considering the possibility of pursuing Army and Navy as football members.
Other schools that have also been mentioned include Villanova, Central Florida, East Carolina and Houston.
The report says that the Big East would be attracted to Army and Navy because of their national appeal and also because the schools could join as football-only members.
If the league could get Army, Navy and one other school, it would get the Big East to 12 schools, which means they'd then have a championship game.
It's believed that a year ago, Villanova was extended an offer to join but that offer has since been put on hold because of the league's concern over where Villanova will play home games.
Another important factor in expansion will be the size of the television market. Here's where all the rumored candidates rank:
Television Market Rank:
Central Florida: No. 19 (Orlando, Florida)
East Carolina: No. 25 (Raleigh-Durham)
Houston: No. 10 (Houston)
Villanova: No. 4 (Philadelphia)
Army: No. 1 (New York)
Navy: No. 9 (Washington, D.C.)
