Bicyclist Killed In Point Breeze Hit-&-Run
POINT BREEZE (KDKA) – Police say they are searching for the driver of a white vehicle allegedly involved in a deadly hit-and-run accident early Wednesday morning in Point Breeze.
According to police, a man on a bicycle was hit by a vehicle near the intersection of Penfield Court and Penn Avenue around 5:10 a.m.
"They have taken someone's life, they've taken someone's child, they've take someone's brother, someone's dad," said Rochelle Jackson, the victim's sister. "So, you know, just have a conscience and do the right thing. That's all we ask you to do, do the right thing."
The sun had not come up yet when the accident happened, but police say the area is well lit, leading them to believe that a motorist was aware he or she hit someone on a bicycle.
"Witnesses who were behind both of those vehicles have given us information that a white car struck the bicycle and fled the scene," said Sgt. William Kunz. "Those witnesses stopped to try to render assistance to the bicyclist, but it was kind of in vain."
James Price, 46, of Homewood would die minutes later at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Family members say Price had been riding his bike for exercise, trying to get back in shape.
"He had been doing this for about two years now," Glenice Price, the victim's mother said.
Police have little to go on except that they are looking for a white vehicle. They are hoping a guilty conscious will help break the case.
KDKA's David Highfield reports:
"Perhaps they were inebriated," Dewayne Rose, the victim's uncle, said of the hit-and-run driver. "Whatever the reason is, the family is hurting."
