BETHEL PARK (KDKA) -- Traffic backups, a water main break and limited water pressure plagued some of Bethel Park for hours Saturday.
Many of the water customers affected were in apartment buildings, as well as a skilled nursing care facility along Highland Road.
In the busy shopping corridor, it made getting around on a Saturday a traffic mess for a while.
Employees of Pennsylvania American Water worked for hours in the cold around a large hole at Highland Road and Oxford Drive to get to the water main break.
Water was turned off for a few hours while crews made repairs. As a precaution, water buffaloes were brought in to four spots along Highland Road and North Highland Road:
- 35 Highland Rd
- 60 Highland Rd
- 53 Highland Rd
- 1775 North Highland Rd (shopping center parking area)
Earlier in the day the road crews, flaggers and cones made for somewhat of a traffic mess.
Viewers sent KDKA photos when traffic was moving slowly, if not at all, along Highland Road between Oxford Drive and Washington Road.
Shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday, the water main line repair was completed. No boil water order, according to Pennsylvania American Water, is needed. Normal service should be restored to all affected.
