Hartwood Acres is one of those parks that have mass appeal to every type of outdoor enthusiast. This park hosts several concerts, festivals, horseback riding and various sporting events. The park brings in thousands of visitors annually. There are miles of trails that you and your canine companion can stroll along. Many of the trails are paved so you don't have to worry about muddy walkways. Whether jogging or taking a scenic walk, visitors are able to take in wildlife and running streams throughout the property. Make sure to have your dog on a leash as this park strictly prohibits off leash walking/running unless in the designated fenced in area.

Encompassing over 561 acres, Frick Park is the largest of Pittsburgh's public recreational areas. Known for its steep peaks and valleys, Frick stretches over several neighborhoods including Squirrel Hill, Point Breeze and Shadyside. Miles and miles of natural beauty await an escape for a scenic walk or jog with your canines. Natural lakes and streams can be found throughout the park creating a tranquil environment. Make sure to stop by the off leash exercise area too. Some trails like the two-mile Lower Riverview Trail can be very challenging due to its deep slopes. No matter what trails you take, be sure and have plenty of water with you.

Located in the heart of Oakland, surrounded by three universities, Schenley Park is the prime destination for students and outdoor enthusiasts. The park includes a public pool, golf course and ice-skating rink. Most weekdays you can find students competing in intramural sports while many run around the outdoor track. Beyond the hilltop are miles of trails that you are able to take advantage of. While not as athletically demanding as Frick Park, some trails can be dangerous at times for prospective runners and dogs. There are some steep inclines through a few trails, but for the most part, man and his best friend can enjoy a solid path.

Located above the Pittsburgh Zoo, Highland Park surrounds a water reservoir built back in 1879. The reservoir is still providing drinking water to residents today and the path around the basin hosts hundreds of walkers and joggers a day. The trail is populated with many dogs, as it is one of the easier, flat paths to follow. Runners can maintain a steady pace and take in the picturesque surroundings while their best friends keeping stride. The park also features volleyball, picnic tables and a public pool for residents to enjoy.
