Pittsburgh has been home to many great artists both past and present. There is no shortage of talent coming from our region. Pittsburgh has many great artists both established and emerging who practice a variety of different genres and subject matters. Here are just a few of the great artists who live in the area and a little more about the art that they are known for.
Randy Gilson

Known mostly for his creation of Randyland, Artist Randy Gilson originally just wanted to beautify the North Side neighborhood he lived in. His attempts at sprucing up some streets and buildings developed into a wonderful display of found and recycled art that makes Arch Street in the Northside quite a favorite attraction among natives and visitors to Pittsburgh. Randy's art is shown off beautifully in the murals, gardens and parks surrounding his home which the public is welcome to visit with an appointment.

The art of Johno Prascak is colorful, lively and bold. Originally meant for physical therapy to help him recover from surgery, Johno Prascak's art has become a favorite of art lovers. Created from enamel paint and sand from the Monongahela River, the paintings feature inspiration from nature, history and Pittsburgh. You can view his "bold Strokes" collection at the Nemacolin gallery and reproductions of his paintings can be found on collector's boxes of Sarris Candies.

Jerome Link is an emerging Pittsburgh artist who uses both classic and new techniques to create his art. Using a combination of mediums such as acrylic paint and vector illustration, Link draws on music and history for inspiration for his pieces. His art takes a provocative stand on cultural and political issues in its imagery showing emotion through color and graphic statements. These art pieces are varied in subject matter and appeal to a broad array of interests.

Although originally from Oxford, NC, John Buxton currently calls Pittsburgh home. John Buxton is a well-known artist who started with a career in illustration, but now paints historic portraits centered on French and Indian War era native and colonial Americans. His snapshots of everyday life as well as historic events of this era is featured in many museums, landmarks and historic places throughout the region.

Paul Michael Bierker is a jewelry artist, goldsmith and technologist. Bierker's designs combine technology, art metal and jewel knowledge to create original, beautiful and timeless jewelry pieces.
