Best Checking Accounts
New data shows not all checking accounts are created equal.
Pew Charitable Trusts looked at 36 of the nation's 50 biggest banks, reviewing them on their account disclosures, overdraft fees and dispute resolution policies.
Ally, which operates exclusively online, topped the list followed by Charles Schwab, First Republic, Citibank and Bank of America.
Fifth Third Bank is just outside the top 10.
PNC is in the bottom half of the ranking. First Niagara finished at the bottom.
Citizens Bank was not included in study.
Pew says all the banks have room for improvement.
It recommends new rules requiring banks to clarify terms and conditions, as well as charge more proportional overdraft fees.
