Ben Roethlisberger Undergoing Concussion Protocol
PITTSBURGH (KDKA/Sports Xchange) – The Steelers fell to the Seahawks on Sunday, and Ben Roethlisberger's day ended early when he left the field with a suspected concussion.
Ben took a vicious helmet-to-helmet hit with a little more than seven minutes to go in the game, but he did not show any noticeable symptoms of a concussion afterward.
He stayed in the game for nine more plays, but on the final play before the field goal, Ben scrambled for 7 yards, almost getting into the end zone. But he was stopped 3 yards short by the Seahawks' K.J. Wright, and this is when Ben started experiencing the headaches, after hitting his head off the turf at Century Link Field.
He was pulled with two minutes left and taken to the locker room with a suspected concussion. Ben reported the symptoms to the team's trainers after the Steelers kicked a field goal to cut Seattle's lead to 32-30. Backup quarterback Landry Jones took over the offense on the final drive.
KDKA-TV Sports' Rich Walsh was told Ben is feeling better and his headache subsided. While he may not necessarily have suffered a concussion, his symptoms were required to be reported as part of the NFL's concussion protocol.
Mike Tomlin will update Ben's status at Tuesday's weekly news conference.
