Roethlisberger: Comments On Haley Taken 'Way' Out Of Context
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan)- Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger reiterated that he has no issues with Offensive Coordinator Todd Haley and that comments he made in regards to the team's game plan Sunday were taken out of context.
There was speculation that the Steelers' quarterback was at odds with Haley when he was asked on Sunday about the team's game plan in the second half against Miami.
"Coach Haley is over there. You could probably ask him," Roethlisberger said to reporters.
Appearing on the #1 Cochran Ben Roethlisberger Show Tuesday morning, Roethlisberger stated his comments were taken out of context.
"It (the comments) was not directed at Coach Haley, like 'Go ask him, I don't know why we didn't do it,'" Roethlisberger said. "It was, 'He's our coordinator, if you want to ask questions about play calling, go ask him about it. He's the guy that calls the plays. If you want to ask me about the no-huddle and I'm calling it (the plays), then you can ask me.'"
Roethlisberger reiterated that he and Haley have a good working relationship.
"It (a story like this) gets blown up, and it's by reporters that come in there and ask the dumbest questions after a game," Roethlisberger said. "There is absolutely no issues with Coach Haley and I, or with this offense. I love where this offense is right now."
Roethlisberger threw for three touchdowns in the loss to the Dolphins, and Le'Veon Bell added 61 yards rushing. Roethlisberger told the guys that he feels that the offense is making progress.
"I'm really pleased with where this offense is. I think we're getting better every week. Obviously we're not winning the football games, which is our ultimate goal. But it's hard to argue with the way the offense has been playing, the success that we feel like that we're having," Roethlisberger said.
Roethlisberger added that the offense is meeting their weekly goals.
The best record that the Steelers can finish with is 8-8, but Roethlisberger told Vinnie and Cook that the team won't settle for playing spoiler.
"We're fighters, we're competitors and we're not going to quit. We're not going into these games trying to play spoiler for anybody. We're going into these games to win them," Roethlisberger said. "That's just the competitive nature that I have and that these other guys have."
