Ben Hopes To Play, Fitted For Brace
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger continues to sit out of practice but is hopeful he'll be able to play Monday night at San Francisco.
Roethlisberger suffered a Grade 1 high-ankle sprain last Thursday night against Cleveland and it has kept him out of practice ever since. He said he's continuing to rest and hopes that the team's trainers will clear him come game time.
"I don't know if it's my decision," Roethlisberger said, according to the Steelers official website. "I'm going to do everything I can to be out there; it's probably more on (the doctors). If I'm not out there it's probably because they didn't feel comfortable with me being out there to protect myself or whatever it is, they know better than I do.
"I can just tell them whether I think I can go or not and I think I can go all the time, so I'm going to do everything I can to be out there for this team."
Roethlisberger has been in walking boot for over a week and recently was fitted for a plastic brace that can support his injury if he plays. He says he's been getting constant treatment in his attempt to return.
"I'm taking one day at a time," Roethlisberger said. "So we'll keep working today and work tomorrow and get ready. The goal is as soon as possible get out there and get as much work in as I can.
"We've got an extra day which is a huge blessing."
Other injury news:
- Linebacker Chris Carter (hamstring), tackle Marcus Gilbert (illness), safety Troy Polamalu (hamstring), center Maurkice Pouncey (ankle), and wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders (foot) did not practice Thursday.
- Wide receiver Arnaz Battle (hamstring) and cornerback Curtis Brown (knee) were limited in Thursday's practice.
