Bell Acres Police Investigating Possible Attempted Child Luring
BELL ACRES (KDKA) – Police are trying to determine if an incident involving a 10-year-old girl in Bell Acres Borough Thursday morning was an attempted child luring or just a misunderstanding.
According to police, the incident happened near the intersection of Fox Hill Drive and Backbone Road around 8 a.m.
When police arrived, the girl informed them that she had missed her school bus. She was then approached by a man at the bus stop.
"She stated that a male approached her and asked if she wanted a ride to school. She told the male she had to ask her parents," said Bell Acres Police Chief Kristoffer Korol. "She proceeded to walk back to her residence and he followed her back to the residence."
The child only had to walk a few feet to get back home, and once inside the house, Chief Korol says she told her parents what had happened.
"As her parents were coming out, the male left the area for an unknown direction, casually driving off, as if it was nothing," said Chief Korol. "The dad actually confirmed that he did see the person outside the house; unfortunately, he could only give the same description his daughter did."
The suspect is described as a white male between the ages of 30 to 40, with reddish hair and glasses. He was driving a silver car, possibly a Pontiac Grand AM.
"We want to find out exactly what this guy's intentions were, why he approached the girl, did he know her, maybe he was a neighbor," Chief Korol said.
Chief Korol says if the driver is reading this report and wants to clear things up, give Bell Acres Police a call at 412-741-3010.
The police chief is hoping the driver is someone from the neighborhood who noticed the girl had missed her bus and just wanted to help.
