Beechview Native Killed In Egyptian Tour Bus Crash
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A woman from Pittsburgh is one of eight American tourists killed in a tour bus crash in Egypt.
The tourists were on their way to the ancient temples of Abu Simbel when the bus crashed into a dump truck filled with sand.
Carole Klein, 74, a Beechview native, was among them.
"It was very tragic," Kendall Palmer, Klein's son-in-law, said. "We only hope that she didn't suffer and that it was pretty instant."
Family members will remember Carol as a dedicated mother of four daughters and a grandmother of 12. She even had a great-grandson.
She moved from Pittsburgh to Maryland years ago, but still came back every year for reunions.
"She was always very involved in the community," Palmer said. "There's many people in Pittsburgh that knew and loved her and will remember her as such a caring person."
Regarding the bus crash and the trip, family members say Klein knew of the possible risks of heading to Egypt, but she loved to travel and felt the dangers would be minimal.
"She was very passionate about world travel," Palmer said. "Over last several years she had spent time in Europe. Last year she went to China and Egypt was kind of on her bucket list."
This is a very painful time for all of Carol Klein's family and friends. Still, they believe she died in peace.
"At least she got to see Egypt which is what she wanted to see, so we know that she died doing something she enjoyed and that brings comfort to us and all the family members."
Funeral arrangements have not been made at this time. It can be particularly difficult transporting a body from the Middle East.
