Beechview Crash Leaves 2 Dead, 2 Injured
BEECHVIEW (KDKA) – Two people were killed in an early Sunday morning accident in Beechview.
According to police, the accident happened hear the intersection of Crane Avenue and Saw Mill Run Boulevard around 3 a.m.
Two women were killed after being ejected from the vehicle. Two men were also critically injured. One was ejected, while the other man was found in the back seat of the vehicle.
One of the men was taken to Allegheny General Hospital, while the other was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.
The medical examiner said Sunday that 17-year-old Mysharri Millender and 18-year-old Kahdejah Cammon-Perkins, both of Pittsburgh, were killed in the accident. The other victims have not been identified.
Friends and family remembered the two teenage girls at a vigil Sunday night.
There were many tears and gut-wrenching pain as loved ones questioned why the girls had been taken away so young.
"They were like best friends," one of the vigil attendees said. "You never saw one without the other and the fact that they passed away together."
Sources say the girls were among a group returning from a party when the violent crash happened. Richard Carrington was driving behind their rented GMC Envoy when he saw the truck literally take flight.
"Car was in front of me," he said. "Watched it go up over the embankment, over the curb, up into the trees and it flipped over on its side."
Carrington, who knew at least one of the passengers, pulled over and tried to help -- but it was too late for the girls ejected from the car.
Police believe speed played a role in the crash and are investigating if alcohol also played a role.
Saw Mill Run Boulevard has been reopened to traffic, but was closed for about five hours following the accident.
