1 Suspect Arrested, 2nd Turns Himself In After Beaver Co. Chase

CHESTER, W.Va. (KDKA) -- State police have taken one man into custody and another has turned himself in after an hours-long chase in Beaver County overnight.

It started early Thursday morning along Route 168 in Hookstown when police recognized a vehicle as one that had been stolen from West Virginia. Police believed the vehicle was connected to two men wanted for a burglary on Dec. 28 at a Dollar General in Hookstown.

The chase came to an end in Conkle Farms, West Virginia.

One suspect, 21-year-old Robert Byrd III from East Liverpool, was arrested. But troopers rushed to the scene near the border with West Virginia, searching for a second person early this morning.

The activity was going on in Chester, West Virginia. Authorities brought in firetrucks, spotlights, a helicopter and police K-9s. SWAT team members were also spotted by KDKA's crew.

"The pursuit went from Hookstown into Georgetown. At the point when it got into Georgetown, the vehicle rammed through a First Energy gate. The pursuit then continued down some dirt roads, that's at the point where it crossed into West Virginia," said Tpr. Robert Broadwater, of state police.

Authorities were then looking for the second suspect, a man named Scott David Shreve, also of East Liverpool, who was at large until the afternoon when he turned himself in to police in West Virginia. It was believed he didn't pose a threat to the public when he was at large.

Byrd is being held in the Northern Regional Jail in Moundsville, West Virginia. His arraignment is expected to be sometime today.
