Beaver Co. Hit Hard By Flooding
INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - Steady rains over the last two days have led to some flash flooding problems across the area.
However, in Beaver County there were so many roads closed that school buses could not get around Wednesday morning.
One of the hardest hit areas was Independence Township, which had four roads closed in the morning.
In Hopewell Township, the rising waters forced a number of schools to delay or cancel classes.
Raccoon Creek spilled its banks and flooded out Park Road and Hookstown Grade Road.
"A lot of flooding around the area. Some roads along with the state roads," Sgt. Lance Malobabich said.
The four road closures prompted a two-hour delay in the Hopewell School District, but officials are hoping the water recedes by Thursday morning.
"I'm hoping that it does recede, that way it causes less traffic hazards for everybody on the roadway," Sgt. Malobabich said.
The Riverside School District canceled school Wednesday and all after-school activities were also canceled.
