BBB Issues Warning About "Do Not Call List" Scams
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Better Business Bureau has issued a warning about scam artists pretending to be protecting you from telemarketers.
The scammers call and claim to be from the National Do Not Call Registry or the Federal Trade Commission. They either ask to sign you up or they tell you they need to "verify" your information.
"The callers are asking for your social security number, your address and for your full name," said Caitlin Vancas from the BBB of Western Pennsylvania.
Obviously, giving away that kind of information opens you up to identity theft.
Vancas says you should just hang up if you get such a call.
She says it's important to know that no one from the National Do Not Call Registry will ever call you.
She also says, "Your registration on the Do Not Call List will never expire despite what a caller will tell you."
