Batch Encourages Active Lifestyle While Visiting With Students
BADEN (KDKA) -- Students at a local elementary school got the surprise of a lifetime Friday when Steelers back-up quarterback Charlie Batch stopped by to encourage the students to get up and stay active.
It was all part of a program aimed at combating childhood obesity.
State Street Elementary School in Baden was the grand prize winner in the "Fuel Up to Play 60 - My Breakfast Promise" contest.
Batch says his message to the children is simple.
"I'm here to encourage healthy eating, encourage 60 minutes of activity," said Batch.
He also took questions from students ranging in topics from whether he wanted to become a football player when he was little to his favorite kind of milk, strawberry.
However, he wasn't so forthcoming when it came to answering questions about the NFL lockout. Instead, he was focusing all his attention on the kids.
Batch may have visited the school to talk about fitness and healthy food choices, but he couldn't pass up the opportunity to teach kids another lesson: how to be a good sport.
"On the count of three I want everybody to give them [Green Bay Packers] a round of applause because they did win the Super Bowl," Batch told the kids.
