Basements, Homes Flooded During Storm

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The rain Tuesday in the South Hills created safety issues ranging from creating a fire hazard to a basement full of feces filled water.

At a Pleasant Hills apartment complex, the rain didn't just hit outdoors. The water also made its way inside. Police say crews had been fixing a hole on the roof of the Southpointe Towers when the afternoon storm hit flooding the roof with ankle deep water.

That water flowed down into about four of the eight floors coming through people's ceilings and electrical outlets.

Many left their homes as firefighters and Duquesne light came in to make sure it was safe to enter.

In East Carnegie along Moffat Street, the water wasn't dripping down but instead rising up in the basement. And it wasn't just rain water.

Neighbors like John Brown and Erich Quinn are beyond frustrated by their sewage filled basements. The same thing just happened during last week's wicked storms.

John Brown said, "The city just put new lines in and it's always been a problem, the rain, now for the second week in a row it's been sewage."

Brown who has already thrown out everything in his basement says now the clean-up for a second time begins.
