Barry: PED's Wouldn't Be That Helpful In Basketball
PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)- Basketball Hall of Famer Rick Barry joined Starkey, Miller and Mueller on Monday to talk about a variety of current topics in sports. Joe Starkey asked if Barry thought that performance enhancing drugs are used in the NBA.
"I don't really think that the performance-enhancing drugs are something that would have a great impact on a sport like basketball," Barry said. "If you're going to take something to improve various aspects of your endurance or things of that nature, it might give you a slight edge. But I don't really think being stronger is going to help you in basketball. Basketball is more of a skill type of a sport, and I don't really see where it would be that helpful."
Berry continued by weighing in on the Major League Baseball PED scandal.
"The sad thing about the baseball situation is that baseball really didn't really care what they were doing for many, many years," Barry said. "They were happy for guys hitting home runs; it didn't matter to them how they were doing it." Barry added that he believes that baseball is not happy about the lack of home runs.
Fans love to debate which player would be the best to start an NBA team with. Barry chose Wilt Chamberlain.
"He's the greatest big man in the history of the game, and you win with big men," Barry said. "Wilt would adapt his game accordingly. If Wilt had the good fortune of having as many great teammates as Bill Russell had, I think that his record of championships would have been phenomenal."
