Authorities Investigate Robbery Attempt At Coffee Drive-Thru
ROSS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Police in Ross Township continue to investigate after two employees reportedly tried to fight off a suspect during a robbery this morning at a small drive-thru coffee shop.
The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. at the Island Bean Company near the Northway Mall along McKnight Road when a silver-blue Honda van came through the drive-thru. Officials say there were several witnesses and the incident was caught on surveillance video.
According to Ross Township police, the suspect got into the business through the drive-thru window and managed to take some money from the cash register. Two female clerks were working inside at the time.
Authorities say the suspect may have had some type of hammer, according to initial reports.
In an attempt to try and keep him from getting to the register, officials say the clerks threw napkins at the suspect.
KDKA's Ross Guidotti reports that Ross Township police say one of the clerks reportedly grabbed a pot of coffee and threw it at the man.
Police say the suspect got away in the silver-blue van, which had earlier been reported as stolen.
Investigators say they believe they found the van and currently have the vehicle in their custody. Police also say they have a possible suspect.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
