Author Discusses Lack Of Unions In The South
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Chris Moore was joined by "In These Times" staff writer Mike Elk to discuss worker unions in the south. Mike specifically spoke of a Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, Tenn., the only Volkswagen plant in the United States.
Volkswagen plants are unionized everywhere except Chattanooga, and Volkswagen wants to unionize the Tennessee plant.
Unions are rare in the south and face obstacles. Mike stated that Republicans in the south "are scared of what will happen" if the Chattanooga plant unionizes.
Mike explained that the fear is, "Chattanooga will create enough momentum that workers in other places will unionize too."
