Man Takes Own Life After Shooting, Injuring Wife
SPRINGHILL TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - State Police are investigating after a man allegedly shot his estranged wife and then turned the gun on himself Wednesday night.
Police were called to a home on Morgantown Road in Springhill Township around 9 p.m.
KDKA's Mary Robb Jackson Reports:
That's where police say 33-year-old Joni Bowers was staying with her parents, following a separation from her husband about three months ago.
Grant Bowers, 32, showed up at the house and wanted to talk, but the conversation turned into an argument.
Grant Bowers pulled out a handgun and shot his wife.
The victim's mother heard the commotion and came downstairs. She looked out to see Grant Bowers straddling his wife with a gun in his hand.

He shot Joni Bowers four times in the chest and throat. The victim's mother tried to run next door for help.
That's when Grant Bowers fired unsuccessfully at her.
He then turned the gun on himself.
Joni Bowers was rushed to Ruby Memorial Hospital. She underwent surgery and is now in critical,, but stable, condition. She is expected to survive.
KDKA's Trina Orlando Reports:
The couple's 5-year old daughter, Lucy, was in the home the entire time with her grandparents. She was not injured.
Family members say Joni Bowers was afraid of her husband and tried to get a PFA just last week. Her request was denied because the threats against her were verbal, not physical.
