Artists Working On New Joe Paterno Statue
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The two artists who worked on the Joe Paterno statue that was removed from Penn State property in 2012 are creating a new statue of the former Penn State coach, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
A bronze statue of Joe Paterno used to stand outside of Penn State University's Beaver Stadium, but it was removed after Jerry Sandusky's child molestation conviction in Jul. 2012. Many Penn State fans objected to the removal of the statue, and just last year a poll showed that the majority of Pennsylvanians asked wanted the statue to be restored. The NCAA restored the university's wins to the football teams, which restored Paterno's status as the winningest coach in major college football.

That's not enough for the two artists who did the casting work on the Paterno statue, however.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Yesid Gomez and Wilfer Buitrago say they're working on creating a new statue of Joe Paterno without approval from Penn State or the Paterno family.
The new model is being built in a secret location.
The artists said they were self-financing the project and they will make two copies. They plan on donating one statue to the Paterno family, while the other is set to be sent to Beaver Stadium "for all the fans and the people that bleed blue and white" and to different locations and museums around the country.
