Arnold Palmer Discusses 2016 U.S. Open At Oakmont
PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) -- Golf legend Arnold Palmer recently sat down for a conversation with The Fan Golf Show host Mike Dudurich before he left for The Open Championship at St. Andrews.
Palmer was recently named the honorary co-chair with Jack Nicklaus for the 2016 U.S. Open at Oakmont.
"I think it's fine. I suppose it's appropriate that they name Jack and I the two co-chairs of the Open, and certainly, Oakmont is a great place for it," Palmer said.
Palmer discussed the lack of trees at Oakmont, and it reminds him of when he first started.
"Oakmont's a good golf course. It's a good player's golf course. It's a good shot-maker's golf course," Palmer said. "We won't see many changes from the fact that the trees have been removed."
The fairways at Oakmont will be widened in time for the Open. Palmer says that it's becoming a trend with golf courses.
"They let the ball roll out to its end, and a lot of the time that's in sand traps or water holes or whatever hazard you have, and I think that's appropriate," Palmer said.
