Are Pirates' Trade Winds Blowing Towards Chicago?
PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - The MLB trade deadline is looming, and many of the rumors surrounding the Pittsburgh Pirates seem to center around Nate Schierholtz of the Cubs and Alex Rios of the White Sox. Sportsradio 93.7 The Fan's Troy Clardy catches up with reporter David Schuster of 670 The Score in Chicago for the latest.
Schuster has watched the Cubs and the White Sox very closely over the years, and he assesses what Schierholtz and Rios can do best.
"Honestly, he's performed very, very well in limited at-bats," Schuster says of Schierholtz. "Maybe the power numbers are a little skewed this year, but he's taking advantage of his opportunity, and maybe he smells a contract with another team further down the road. I don't think he does anything fantastically well, but I think he's pretty well-rounded."
As for Rios, Schuster says, "He's got speed, he can take an extra base on an outfielder, and he has a much stronger arm from the outfield than Schierholtz. At times, potentially, he loafs a little bit and he loses concentration. That is something that scouts already know about, and maybe teams keep in mind."
Schuster also reveals which of the two players may potentially make a bigger impact with a new team.
