Apple Fans In Shadyside Pay Tribute To Steve Jobs

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- There's a small memorial outside the Apple Store in Shadyside that in its simplicity goes a long way in describing the man.

It says: "Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes, the ones who see things differently."

Steve Jobs was an original with the inventiveness of a Leonardo, the world changing impact of a Henry Ford and a marketing maven who made Madonna look like a piker.

On Walnut Street, people used their iPhones to snap pictures of the memorial to Steve Jobs who lived his life in the realm of possibility, simplifying technology for the common man.

When it came to function and design, Jobs started with the person and worked back to the technology.

"I think Steve Jobs is, in large part, responsible for turning the geek into a sexy icon," Dr. Justine Cassel, a professor at Carnegie Mellon University, said.

"He said, 'What do people want? What do they desire? What do they need? What's going to make them happy? What's going to make their lives better?'"

And for 9-year-olds like Oliver Henry, Jobs was hard working and honest like Thomas Edison.

"So sort of the Mac and Steve Jobs works are the modern day light bulb!"

Steve Jobs was a visionary whose passing leaves a vacuum felt by many. He leaves behind a wife and four children.
