AP: Congressman Tim Murphy Retains Seat
WASHINGTON D.C. (KDKA/AP) -- Republican Congressman Tim Murphy, U.S. House District 18, has retained his seat, according to the Associated Press.
He defeated Democrat Larry Maggi.
The two ran to represent the new 18th District that stretches from Greene and Washington counties through southern Allegheny and Westmoreland counties.
While Maggi attacked Murphy for hurting seniors, Murphy said Maggi lacks experience, especially on health care.
In September, at a candidates' forum in Greensburg, Murphy said he would continue to stand up to a Democratic president when he engages in "a war on coal, on nuclear — 10 federal agencies tasked to stop natural gas development, a threat of a looming war overseas and an administration who still refuses to call it terrorism."
Murphy has won re-election by big margins in the past — with cross-over votes from Democrats.
