Another Round Of Storms Moves Through Parts Of Area
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It was another unsettled day as some severe weather moved across the area Sunday.
While the day wasn't a complete washout, thunderstorm warnings were issued for several counties to the north of Pittsburgh.
"We did see our share of isolated severe storms, and for a time had warnings in effect for some of our northern counties - Lawrence County, Butler, Clairon, northern Armstrong County as well," said KDKA's Jon Burnett. "Those have now all expired or been canceled, and right now all we're dealing with really are a few pockets of still heavy downpours."
Hail was report in some areas along with gusty winds and rain.
"Rain showers have been intermittent," said Burnett. "We've seen a couple of different lines come through as you can see from northwest to southeast, and we are continuing to see that same pattern. Although, as the sun sets and the energy in the atmosphere dies down, we'll begin to see an end to this activity.
An overnight low of 53 degrees is expected with an evening shower in spots; and otherwise patchy clouds.
"We still have a couple of streams left up through the lakes and into southern parts of Michigan and Ontario, that'll all work its way through by midnight and then we'll go quiet overnight before seeing things re-fire again [Monday]," he added.
As for Monday, Burnett says we can expect another unsettled day.
"A little on the cool side for June with highs struggling to get out of the 60s, and just a persistent damp, unsettled stretch that will carry us right into Thursday," he said.
We could finally see temperatures warming up to a summer-like feel by next weekend, but until then the days will mostly look the same.
"It looks like it's going to be Friday before we break out of this pattern where we'll see partly to mostly cloudy skies and periods of sunshine and then afternoon showers as we get into the heating of the day, instability type showers, that's going to be the rule right through Thursday it looks like."
This isn't the first round of severe weather to come through the area recently.
On Friday, officials with the National Weather Service confirmed that an EF1 tornado touched down in Ligonier, Westmoreland County.
