Animal Rescue League Experiencing Overflow Of Animals

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Animal Rescue League is looking for help after a temporary closure at the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society has led to an overflow of animals.

Recently, the Humane Society closed for several weeks after a dog tested positive for distemper.

They temporarily did not allow dog adoptions during that time, but have since allowed it. However, they are not accepting dogs for intake.

Due to the closure, the Animal Rescue League says it's now overflowing with animals that need to be adopted.

The Humane Society also says it's recently had a spike in cats and kittens.

Officials say anyone who wants to help can either adopt an animal, volunteer to foster an animal or can donate goods or money.

There's also a name your price offer through July 6. All you have to do is show a valid ID, complete an application and prove that you own a home or rent a space that allows cats.

You can also donate old items you have lying around at the "Reuse Fest" Saturday.

Items such as bicycles, building materials, clothing or pet carriers can be dropped off at Jefferson Middle School in Mt. Lebanon.

The items will be reused by local nonprofits.
