Angie's List Inexpensive Home Security Ideas
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Whether you leave town for a vacation or leave to run a few errands, it's easy for busy people to become careless and leave their home vulnerable to break-ins.
However, Angie's List has some suggestions for how you can enhance security, without spending a fortune.
On her way to work one morning, Katie noticed a bicycle and snow blower were missing from the garage.
"I was just really, really frustrated and irritated and a little, more than a little angry. And secondly felt a little foolish because the side door of the garage was unlocked," Katie said.
If you're concerned about security - an easy step is to install dead bolts on your doors for about $100 dollars a lock.
"When selecting a lock, you need to realize that not all locks are created equally. So, you want to check with the American National Standards Institute to find the rating for each lock you are considering," Angie Hicks from Angie's List said.
Another step to enhance security is to add lighting.
"Lights that are left on all the time are often ignored and may not be a sign that you are actually home. Using lights that are on sensors are a much better choice," Hicks said.
You can also buy timers for your indoor lights for less than $20.
It's an inexpensive way to make it look like someone is home.
