Andy Toole: Enjoying The Experience Led To Win
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – Robert Morris basketball head coach Andy Toole joined "The Fan Morning Show" on Thursday to talk about his team's win over North Florida in the First Four and their upcoming round-of-64 matchup with Duke on Friday.
Toole said he encouraged his team to embrace the good vibes that their trip had given them.
"Our whole experience in Dayton was great," Toole said. "And in the first half, nobody enjoyed it. Everybody, I think, kind of trying to make plays for themselves, and worrying about a missed assignment or a pass that didn't get made, or whatever it was. That's what we talked about at halftime...and it was great. The last two or three timeouts, guys were yelling and screaming in the huddle, everybody was locked in, everybody was together."
Toole was asked if he'll be basking in the opportunity to square off against the legendary Mike Krzyzewski.
"Probably for a second," Toole said. "You have to say how fortunate I am to be able to be coaching a team on the same court as maybe the greatest college basketball coach of all-time. And then, as soon as the ball is thrown up, we'll try to compete and see what we can do."
While there has been a surge in local support for Robert Morris this week, Toole said the hardest sell has been somebody very close to him.
"I've got to convince my 2-year-old to actually root for us tomorrow night," Toole said. "Because as of right now, he's rooting for Duke."
