Allegheny County Councilman Cited For Allegedly Driving Under The Influence
WEST MIFFLIN (KDKA) -- A member of the Allegheny County Council has been cited for allegedly driving under the influence.
Robert Macey, who represents West Mifflin and much of the Mon Valley, crashed in Venango County this weekend.
The County Councilman says he's humiliated and disgusted by his behavior.
"Well, you reap what you sew. I got everything I deserved that night," Macey told KDKA's Marty Griffin.
Last Saturday, Macey driving after what he calls a lot of drinking. His car left the road and ended up in a ditch. Macey was arrested by state police and charged with driving under the influence.
"People are human and I made a terrible, terrible mistake. But fortunately, I didn't get hurt and neither did anyone else, and I didn't damage anybody's property," Macey said. "But if you have a problem or even think you have a problem, talk it out with someone. Go get help immediately before something terrible does happen."
A contrite Macey spoke from his West Mifflin home on Tuesday.
"I have a tremendous amount of remorse," he added. "I feel that I've let my family down, and also my constituents who have a lot of faith in me."
Macey says the sooner he gets help, the better off he will be.
"A new way of life, a better way of life, alcohol free," said Macey.
Macey also wants to apologize to his constituents, and says he will not step aside.
"I'm not going to stop serving the people. As I've promised in the past, I'll be able to do it better today with the help and therapy that I'm looking for," Macey said.
Macey added that he is committed to sobriety, saying that he starts a rehabilitation program on Wednesday.
