Aliquippa man arrested, accused of choking 1-year-old girl

ALIQUIPPA, Pa. (KDKA) -- A man from Aliquippa was arrested on Monday and is accused of choking a 1-year-old girl.

Aliquippa Police say the incident started when officers were called to the Eleanor Roosevelt Apartments along Sheffield Avenue just after 10 a.m. on Monday for a report of a domestic disturbance.

Police say officers who responded to the scene were met by a woman who said 60-year-old Darryl Watkins assaulted their 1-year-old granddaughter.

The woman told police that Watkins choked and hit the little girl and multiple witnesses said they saw the incident took place, according to police.

Police say they tried taking Watkins into custody and he fought back with officers. Watkins is also accused of failing to follow directions, putting a hole in a wall inside the police station, and damaging a computer at the station.

Watkins was taken to the Beaver County Jail and is facing charges including strangulation, assault, vandalism, resisting arrest. 

He was unable to post bail and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for later this month.
