Alert Neighbors Prevent Injuries In South Side Fire
SOUTH SIDE (KDKA) – Alert neighbors helped people inside a South Side home escape injury when a fire broke out Monday morning.
Officials at the scene said the fire started in a third-floor bedroom in the Elanor Street home around 8 a.m.
A neighbor heard the crackling and began pounding on the door to the home.
"I was freaking out, because people live there. No one was answering. I know dogs are in there and I opened up the door and screamed inside. The only thing we could do was wait for the fire department to come," Marisa Monahan said.
"The occupants were alerted by a neighbor, knocked on the door, woke them up, and probably saved their lives," Terry Cercheiraro with the Pittsburg Fire Department said.
Everyone was able to make it out of the home safely and investigators are still working to determine what started the fire.
