AJ Burnett Continues To Climb All-Time Strikeouts Leaderboard
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - With his strikeout of Cincinnati Reds pitcher Anthony Desclafani Thursday night, Pirates starter AJ Burnett reached a career milestone in strikeouts as he now sits at 2,401.
Burnett now joins an elite club of MLB pitchers with 2,400 career strikeouts, becoming the 41st pitcher to reach this accomplishment.
Burnett finished Thursday night's start with a line of seven innings pitched, allowing seven hits and two earned runs on his way to a victory and ending the Pirates five-game losing streak.
Burnett currently has the second most career strikeouts amongst active pitchers, trailing only the New York Yankees CC Sabathia, who has 2,466.
Earlier this week, Burnett passed Sandy Koufax on the all-time strikeout list when he struck out St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday.
