Steelers Fans Stay Positive Despite Some Flight Delays
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Hundreds of Steelers fans packed downtown Pittsburgh Thursday for a pep rally ahead of Super Bowl Sunday, and today the rally moved to Pittsburgh International Airport.
The Allegheny County Airport Authority and AIRMALL hosted the event to send fans off to Dallas for the game.
The festivities started in the morning and ran through noon at the Airside Terminal with live music, lots of black and gold, and Steelers merchandise.
"It is Black and Gold Day at Pittsburgh International Airport," JoAnn Jenny, the communications director at the airport, said in a press release. "The airport and airline employees are pretty pumped up about the game."
However, due to the winter weather that is hitting Texas, some flights were delayed.
"The earlier flights are delayed a little bit longer, but everyone's still in good spirits," said Steelers fan John Nigro. "No big deal; just a couple hours."
Some definitely took the "glass is half full" attitude during the wait.
"We're going to the Super Bowl! How can you be bummed?" said Steelers fan, Tasso Batis.
And while the empty tarmac weighed heavy on some; others looked for signs, like a statue of Franco Harris, for a little luck perhaps to make it out of Pittsburgh.
But the bottom line is that fans are on their way, even if it's just a little bit late.
"Seven Super Bowls! Yah! Seven, baby, seven! Here we come Green Bay... here we come!" added Negro.
Officials at the airport say that four airlines added extra flights to Dallas today for Steelers fans.
