AAA Expects Decrease In Road Travel Over July 4th Weekend

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Gas prices may be falling, but that is not enough to get people out on the roads for the Fourth of July holiday.

According to AAA, 39 million Americans will travel this July 4th weekend, which is down 2.5 percent from last year.

A survey of intended travelers by AAA did find that "56 percent said rising gasoline prices would not impact their travel plans."

As for the remaining 44 percent who told AAA that their plans would be affected, seven out of 10 reported that they would economize in other areas, and three of 10 are planning to use a different mode of transportation or to take shorter trips.

Officials with AAA also expect the number of air travelers to increase by nine percent. However, travelers can expect to see increases in airfares, hotel rates and car rental rates.
