A Pittsburgh Reporter's Story Of Pat Summerall's Generosity
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - ROOT Sports Pittsburgh Pirates reporter Robby Incmikoski joined The Fan Morning Show on Wednesday to talk about the passing of his former colleague, Pat Summerall.
Incmikoski got his first television job in 2002 working at Summerall's spotter, and the chance to do so meant a lot to him.
"Travelling to NFL stadiums with Pat Summerall was basically like traveling with the Beatles," he said. "It was a pretty cool experience and I'm lucky to have had it."
Incmikoski remembered Summerall most for how he treated those around him.
"He was very well known for taking care of his people," Incmikoski said. "He had given me a Christmas card one time... and then I got it, and sometimes you expect 50, 20, 100, maybe on the top end a few hundred dollars- well, he had given me $2,500 dollars for Christmas. And for a young kid trying to find his way in TV, that was a lot of money."
"That was really cool, and really nice, and really spoke volumes about Pat and the way he took care of the people that helped take care of him a little bit. If there's anything you need to know, that is maybe the one thing that says it all about the way he treated people."
