Former Allegheny Co. Officer Charge In Fatal Hit & Run Waives Hearing
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A former Allegheny County police officer charged with a fatal hit-and-run accident was in court Monday.
Soon he'll be headed to trial.
Former officer Timothy Tatters, is accused of being behind the wheel of a car involved with a fatal accident in McKeesport a month ago.
In court Monday, Tatters waived his right to a hearing.
Tatters was driven to court, because his driving privileges have been taken away as part of his bail.
Police say Tatters his 56-year-old Lorraine Wilkes in the 600-block of Lyle Boulevard in mid-January and that he never stopped.
Wilkes was discovered hours later laying on the sidewalk and died a short time later.
Tatters was arrested and charged, accused of spending several hours at local bar before hitting Wilkes.
After waiving his hearing, Tatters' lawyer said he hopes to have his client be able to drive and go into businesses that serve alcohol until his trial. The judge, however, said he can not.
"One of the conditions of his bond right now is that he not be in the presence where alcohol is served," Defense Attorney Scott Lautner said. "That was the issue, we didn't have any issue with him not consuming, we had an issue with him being able to be present beyond the board."
Tatters will face formal arraignment in April.
